Lesson: Triads With E Pedal
Triads are the foundation and building blocks of western music. Triads are a set of three notes usually consisting of the root, 3rd, and 5th. In a triad, the 3rd can be major or minor and the 5th can be diminished or augmented. I purposely left out augmented triads for this lesson since they are not diatonic to major or natural minor keys. In this study we will play triads over an E pedal tone or drone. Many of the triads will form other chords when set against the E pedal tone. Many of these chord forms may be new and some will be very familiar to you.
