James Brown - |
Cover: Get Up ( I Feel Like Being A Sex Machine)One of the biggest and best hits by James Brown, "Get Up (I Feel Like Being A Sex Machine)" aka "Sex Machine" hit number two on the R&B Charts and went top twenty on the Pop Charts in 1970. The song also features the recording debut of brothers William "Bootsy" Collins and Phelps "Catfish" Collins. Funk doesn't get much better than this. |

Lesson: How To Play 'And Your Bird Can Sing'Hello and welcome to the second part of "And Your Bird Can Sing". In this lesson we will examine the bridge, the coda, and a slight harmonic departure that occurs midway through the song. So fire up the old Vox AC30 and dust off that 1964 Epiphone Casino or Gibson SG Standard and let's get to work. |
The Beatles - Let It Be |
Cover: Across The UniverseOne of the highlights of the 'Let It Be' album, "Across The Universe" is one of the most delicate and cosmic ballads written and sung by John Lennon. Inspired by psychedelic culture and the Indian/religious studies the Beatles were immersing themselves in during late 1967/early 1968, the lyric is brimming with free association words and pictures and psychedelic-style wordplay. The 'Let It Be' version was produced by Phil Spector, who took the basic track the group had previously recorded, added some orchestration and choral vocals and remixed the original version. |
Rush - Making Memories |
Cover: Fly By NightFrom the album of the same name, 'Fly By Night' is the second album by Rush, and the first with drummer Neil Peart, who went on to become one of the most respected drummers in rock. Peart's imaginative lyric writing combined with the supreme musicianship and songwriting skills of Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson helped steer the band towards their next break through album '2112', and all the phenomenal success that followed. |
