New Tracks And Lessons:
New Beatles track and lesson, Rush, Twisted Sister
The Beatles - Let It Be |
Cover: Across The UniverseOne of the highlights of the 'Let It Be' album, "Across The Universe" is one of the most delicate and cosmic ballads written and sung by John Lennon. Inspired by psychedelic culture and the Indian/religious studies the Beatles were immersing themselves in during late 1967/early 1968, the lyric is brimming with free association words and pictures and psychedelic-style wordplay. The 'Let It Be' version was produced by Phil Spector, who took the basic track the group had previously recorded, added some orchestration and choral vocals and remixed the original version. |

Lesson: How To Play - And Your Bird Can Sing by The Beatles - Part 1If one Beatles album could be dubbed their "guitar" album, "Revolver", would be it. Along with "Rubber Soul", "Revolver" captures the Beatles playing as a tight unit, perfecting the three minute song, still conforming to the conventional "pop radio" way of thinking. Not that this is a bad thing, the Beatles of 1966 were bursting at the seams with fresh new ideas and an unquenchable thirst for new sounds and structures. It's a harbinger for the revolution that would come one album later with the arrival of "Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band". In this lesson we will dissect John Lennon's "And Your Bird Can Sing" and unravel the closely knit lead guitar lines played by George Harrison and Paul McCartney. |
Rush - Making Memories |
Cover: Fly By NightFrom the album of the same name, 'Fly By Night' is the second album by Rush, and the first with drummer Neil Peart, who went on to become one of the most respected drummers in rock. Peart's imaginative lyric writing combined with the supreme musicianship and songwriting skills of Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson helped steer the band towards their next break through album '2112', and all the phenomenal success that followed. |
Twisted Sister - Stay Hungry |
Cover: I Wanna RockFrom the album 'Stay Hungry', "I Wanna Rock" was one of Twisted Sisters biggest hits and is still making people wanna rock. It has been featured in numerous films, TV, and video games like 'Guitar Hero'. Guitarist Jay Jay French made a political song supporting Barack Obama titled "I Want Barack" to the tune of this song. |
